Nowhere in the world is China’s rapid rise to power more evident than in Africa. From multi-billion dollars investments in oil and minerals to the influx of thousands of merchants, labourers and cheap consumer goods, China’s economic and political reach is redefining Africa’s traditional ties with the international community.
This book investigates the emerging relationship between China and Africa to determine whether this engagement will be that of a development partner, economic competitor or new hegemon. Alden argues that in order to understand Chinese involvement on the continent, we need to recognise the range of economic, diplomatic and security rationales behind Beijing’s Africa policy as well as the response of African elites to China’s entreaties.
Only then can the new challenges and opportunities for Africa and the West be accurately assessed.

Equiano’s travels Edited By Paul Edwards
Seller: GrammyBooksWidely admired for its vivid accounts of the slave trade, Olaudah Equiano’s autobiography — the first slave narrative to attract a significant readership — reveals many aspects of the eighteenth-century Western world through the experiences of one individual. The second edition reproduces the original London printing, supervised by Equiano in 1789. Robert J. Allison’s introduction, which places Equiano’s narrative in the context of the Atlantic slave trade, has been revised and updated to reflect the heated controversy surrounding Equiano’s birthplace, as well as the latest scholarship on Atlantic history and the history of slavery. Improved pedagogical features include contemporary illustrations with expanded captions and a map showing Equiano’s travels in greater detail. Helpful footnotes provide guidance throughout the eighteenth-century text, and a chronology and an up-to-date bibliography aid students in their study of this thought-provoking narrative.

Isara, a voyage around Essay By Wole Soyinka
Seller: GrammyBooksThe contents of a tin box – a handful of letters; old journals with marked pages and annotations; school reports; notebook jottings; tax and other levy receipts; minutes of meetings; and programme notes of special events – which belonged to his father, S. A. (“Essay”) Soyinka, a school teacher during the colonial period in Nigeria, provide the grist for Isara: A Voyage Around Essay, the second instalment of Wole Soyinka’s memoirs – a son’s fictionalised “voyage” into the life and times of his father.
A well written account of childhood in pre independence Yorubaland. Although it is probably not typical, it illustrates the essence of the Yoruba parenting style, a style that makes every adult a parent and every child dutiful. I recommend it.

KEEXS Lite – Afronauts (Mars) Limited Edition
Men's Fashion, Shoes, Sneakers, Women Shoes, women sneakersKEEXS Lite – Afronauts (Mars) Limited Edition
Seller: KeexsIn 1964, living the dream of their freshly gained independence, Zambia started a space program that would put the first African on the moon, catching up with the USA and the Soviet Union in the space race. Only a few optimists supported the project by Edward Makuka Nkoloso. Financial aid never came and a 16 year old astronaut, Martha got pregnant. That is how the heroic initiative turned into an exotic episode of the African history. Our photographic adaption is from the works of Cristina de Middel, a Spanish documentary photographer and artist.
