Vintage African Carved Calabash Gourd .
A large and beautifully carved half calabash gourd painted with vegetable dyes. Decorated with a painting of a bird. Measures 11″ across and has a depth of about 5″. Gourds are one of the earliest domesticated plants, and have developed in tandem with human civilization. In Africa, calabash gourds were sculpted into pipes, horns and drums. Would look just as good being used as a bowl or hung on the wall for decor.
